Converting text to outlines turns a selected text box into vector artwork. This is useful when you want to lock in the appearance of lettering before sharing, downloading, or continuing to design with it.
After text is converted, the words are no longer editable as text. You can still move, resize, rotate, layer, and recolor the converted artwork like other vector elements.
Convert a text box to outlines
- Open your design in the Easil editor.
- Select one text box on the canvas.
- Right-click the selected text box.
- Choose Convert Text to Outlines.
The text box is replaced with vector artwork that keeps the same position and appearance. Use Undo if you need to return to the editable text box.
Recolor converted text
Converted text uses the vector color controls. Select the converted artwork, then choose the color swatch you want to change.
If the original text used multiple colors, Easil keeps separate color swatches where possible. Text with an outline can include separate swatches for the text color and outline color.
When text cannot be converted
Some text effects cannot be converted to outlines yet. Easil will show a message if the selected text includes an unsupported effect, such as:
- a drop shadow
- underlined or struck-through text
- gradient-filled text
- a mask
Remove the unsupported effect and try converting the text again.
Things to check before downloading
Converted text is artwork, so it will not update if you later change the font or wording elsewhere in your design. Keep an editable copy of the original text if you may need to rewrite it later.
