Delete a layer from your design

The Layers tab lists the elements on each page of your design, including elements that are hidden or inside a group. You can select a layer here when it is difficult to select directly on the canvas.

Delete a layer

  1. Open the Layers tab in the editor sidebar.
  2. Expand the page and, if needed, the group that contains the element.
  3. Select the layer you want to remove.
  4. Select Delete in the top-right of the Actionbar, or press DELETE or BACKSPACE on your keyboard.

To remove several layers together, hold SHIFT while selecting each layer, then use Delete or press DELETE or BACKSPACE.

Deleting a group also removes the elements inside that group.

Undo a deletion

If you remove the wrong layer, select Undo in the Actionbar straight away. You can also press COMMAND + Z (Mac) or CTRL + Z (PC).

Hide a visual layer instead

If you may need a visual element again, hide it rather than deleting it. Select the eye icon beside the layer to turn its visibility off, then select the crossed-out eye to show it again. Audio layers use a mute control instead.

If Delete is unavailable or nothing happens, the element may have a template restriction that prevents it from being removed.

You can also delete elements by selecting them directly on the canvas. See How do I delete objects from the canvas? for that workflow.
