How to assign Smart Images and use them in your designs
What are Smart Images?
Smart Images allow you to quickly set & reuse frequently used Images like logos, headshots, brand assets and more. It can be especially useful in Teams, where your Team Templates can be automatically customized for other users.
Smart Images can be created at the Team level or the User level. Team Smart Images can be used by any members in that team (useful for things like Logos), while User Smart Images are user specific (Useful for things like Headshots).
For example, you could use Smart Images in conjunction with Smart Text to create a Template for a Business Card with placeholders for a headshot, a logo, names, emails & addresses - then your users can open that template and their Smart Text and Images will automatically appear.
Creating New Smart Images
Smart Images can be added in either your team's Brand Kit or your My Uploads page.
Smart Images added to the Brand Kit can be used by every user within your Team, whereas Smart Images created in My Uploads can be different for each Team Member.
Smart Images are created by assigning a Smart ID to an existing image. To add a new Smart Image, click the arrow button to the right of an image in My Uploads or Brand Kit, then select "Assign Smart ID".
A modal will appear with a preview of your image, and a field allowing you to set a Smart ID.
For example, a Smart ID could be "user.headshot". Each user could assign their own images to the "user.headshot" ID, so that if they open a Template which uses that ID, their photos will automatically appear in the design.
Using Smart Images in a Design
When editing an Easil design, you can add a Smart Image in two ways.
You can access the "Smart Images" section of the "Images" tab to view all of the available Smart Images. Clicking on one of the Smart Images will add it to your design.
You can also edit an image already on a design and update it to a Smart Image.
First, click on an image on your design to select it, then open the "Smart Image" popout in the actionbar. This popout allows you to type in the Smart ID for one of your Smart Images.
Once you select a Smart ID in this popout, the image element you have selected on the design will update to display whatever image is linked to that ID.
When an Image on your design is linked to a Smart ID, it will remain linked to that ID. This means that you can unassign the ID from one image and assign it to another, and your designs will automatically update to use the new image.
Why should you use Smart Images?
By using Smart Images together with Smart Text, your team members will be able to create custom designs without needing to do any of the customisation themselves.
Each user will be able to open a template automatically customised for them & ready to order, whether it's custom business cards, a sub-brand's promo poster with their own custom logos and products, name badges, or more.
